Badhaai Do review: Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar’s family entertainer is bold but could have been braver

Bollywood comedy jokes to tell stories on illegal stories seem to work very well so far. And when it comes to touching on a sensitive topic like homosexuality, films like Shubh Mangal Zyada Saavdhan and Dostana rely on this concept and succeed in sending constructive messages. Therefore, it is not surprising to see Badhaai Do again use a simple tone while highlighting an important issue.

Badhaai Do review: Rajkummar Rao, Bhumi Pednekar’s family entertainer is bold but could have been braver

Badhaai Do is about the story of Shardul (Rajkummar Rao) and Sumi (Bhumi Pednekar), close members of the LGBTQ + community, living together as people living together after agreeing to enter into a 'marriage to make things easier'. The film shows that a person’s gender defines and determines his or her destiny in society. Although Shardul, a police officer, along with Sumi, a PE teacher, agreed to this plan - called lavender marriage - to close their families and release the constant pressure of marriage, the journey they were on and their separation. partners eventually lead to several fulfillments about their realities.

Director Harshvardhan Kulkarni discusses this topic in a very mature and sensitive way, and in his quest to sound clever or add captions, he never underestimates the difficulties faced by homosexuals.
